Celebrating Black History Through Education: Spelman College

Spelman College is the oldest HBCU for women in the United States, founded in 1881. It was originally named the Atlanta Baptist Female Seminary and became Spelman College in 1924.

Located in Atlanta, Georgia, Spelman is part of the Atlanta University Center Consortium, promoting collaboration and involvement with neighboring HBCU campuses, Clark Atlanta University and Morehouse College.

Spelman is a global leader in the education of women of African descent, dedicated to academic excellence in the liberal arts and sciences and the intellectual, creative, ethical, and leadership development of its students.
