Xavier University of Louisiana is a historically black university located in New Orleans, Louisiana founded in 1915. The private institution is known for its College of Pharmacy, College of Arts and Science with alumni becoming notable doctors, lawyers, educators, journalists, philanthropists and much more.

Xavier University started as a high school, then became a two-year school, eventually becoming a four-year college founded and to this day controlled by the Catholic Church. The University is also the only historically Black, Catholic University in the United States.

The University has more African-American students that apply and go on to graduate from medical school than most colleges in the nation. Xavier is first in the United States for graduating Black students with bachelor’s degrees in biology and physics, in the top four institutions graduating Black pharmacists, and third in the United States for Black graduates who go on to earn doctorates in science and engineering.
